In the online series #SustainableCampus we share stories about our sustainability approach as Campus, and how we would like to become the Most Sustainable Campus in Europe.

Together with our partner in green maintenance, Dolmans, we develop ecological initiatives on the Campus. Such as the winter food field, located in front of the building of company NXP. The field is sown in April and remains until the following year so that in winter the grain is available for the birds that return regularly to search and find food there.

Dolmans: "We also leave the reed in the pond on the Campus, because many insects hibernate between the reed stems. A wall of branches is an excellent place to hide for birds, mammals and insects. Amphibians and reptiles find a place to hibernate here. Mushrooms, ferns and other plant species are also an excellent shelter for animals. Even some butterfly species lay their eggs on dead wood. The fauna facilities on the water of the Campus have a similar function, so that waterfowl, insects and fish can find shelter or build their nests."

As High Tech Campus are also developing a winter shelter for bats. Together with Brabant Water, we are converting a clean water cellar into a bat cellar. Brabant Water: "The river Dommel is located just behind the Campus and there is a considerable bat population. They will find the way to their homes via a green route of trees. This is how we increase the biodiversity on Campus." The bat cellar will be open to guests from next winter.
